Dan Wildfong helped the Mudbugs widen the gap with a power-play goal early in the second period. Chris Brassard had control of the puck at the top of the crease

Backhander richochet to Wildfong, who banked one off Beaudry.

Henry Kuster put the Ice Bats on he board with a power play goal midway through the second period. The Mudbugs responded vehemently when Jason Basile delivered hockey’s version of a dagger – a short-handed goal.
Basile and Joe Ori skated toward Beaudry on a 2-on-1 rush. The defenseman waited until the last second, never passed the puck and beat the Ice Bats goalie with a beautiful backhanded move to give Bossier-Shreveport a 4-1 lead.

BUGS LEAD 2-0 AFTER 1
Bossier-Shreveport tallied another goal late in the first period on a dazzling connection from a pair of first-year Mudbugs.
Jason Williamson won the faceoff in the left circle of Austin’s zone and Kyle Musselman immediately rifled a one-timer past a stunned Beaudry.

With beautiful backhander from the right circle.

MURPHY WASTES NO TIME
It took one shift for Chris Murphy to send a message to the Mudbugs. He made a bee-line for defenseman Ryan Fairbarn and sent him to the ice with an elbow to the jaw.

AUSTIN WITHOUT LEADING SCORER; BUGS GET CAM ABBOTT BACK
The Ice Bats will play without leading scorer John McNabb tonight, but team officials say he may be back for Sunday's rematch in Austin.
The goaltenders tonight will be John DeCaro for the Mudbugs and Miguel Beaudry for Austin.
Cam Abbott, the impressive rookie for Bossier-Shreveport, is back in the lineup after a stint on the 14-day IR.

MACPHERSON TALLIES AGAIN; BUGS LEAD 3-1
Former Mudbugs captain Forbes MacPherson scored for the second time Friday and put the Mudbugs up 3-1 with 10 minutes to go.

Bugs survive scare midway through third
Mudbugs defenseman Jason Basile committed a rare turnover behind his net midway through the third, but the Mudbugs caught a break.
Phil Aucoin picked up the loose puck behind the Mudbugs' net and found Travis Banga in the left circle. Banga sent a one-touch pass to Darrell Stoddard, who whiffed on the empty net.
The Mudbugs still lead 2-1.

DING, DING
Dan Wildfong took care of an overmatched Ryan Campbell just three seconds before Kyle Musselman and Doug MacIver went at it.
Musselman had an intersting strategy -- hold MacIver at bay and wait. Well MacIver, a Mudbug at the beginning of this season, moved in quickly and Musselman never had a chance.
The kid will learn.

SECOND PERIOD CAPPER
BUGS HOLD SLIM LEAD ENTERING THIRD; CROWD, GOALIES UP TO TASK
Tonight just has that playoff atmosphere and the crowd is here to prove it. The average attendance is down a bit this season (it's hard to increase by 15 percent every year), but Friday's crowd has to be the biggest of the season.
The teams have responded with some exciting action.

Kevin Schieve helped keep the RiverKings in the game with a couple of stellar saves near the end of the second period. He robbed another Brassard wrister and a point-blank stuff attempt by MacPherson.

Bugs goalie John DeCaro had little work in the second period, but made an amazing glove save on Darrell Stoddard with 41 seconds and change remaining in the period. The save brought the jam-packed CTC to its feet and preserved the Mudbugs lead heading into the third period.

BRASSARD MAKES IT 2-1
Chris Brassard gave the Mudbugs their first lead with a power-play goal midway through the second. The RiverKings allowed the veteran to skate free from the goal line and Brassard to advantage of the space to move in of Schieve and sent a nasty wrister into the back of the net.

MACPHERSON TIES IT UP
A mistake by lightly used goaltender Kevin Schieve helped veteran Forbes MacPherson tie the game at 1. Schieve came out of his net to play the puck during a Mudbugs power play early in the second period. MacPherson intercepted the puck, went to the crease and tied things up 26 seconds into the man-advantage.

MEMPHIS TAKES 1-0 LEAD
Jason Tessa cranked home a power-play goal early in the second period to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead. Tessa’s wrister from the high slot worked its way through traffic and into the net.

FIRST PERIOD CAPPER
The Mudbugs started slow and failed to record a shot on goal in the first 11 minutes of the game. Bossier-Shreveport’s John DeCaro, one of two Mudbugs netminders on the All-Star team last week, held strong and stopped the first seven shots of the game from an energized Memphis squad.
Bossier-Shreveport picked up the pace midway through the first and had several chances snuffed by Kevin Schieve, who received a rare start in relief of All-Star Larry Sterling.
The Mudbugs did poke a puck past Schieve, but referee Tom Sterns lost sight of the pill and called the play dead prior to the apparent goal.

Wildfong breaks another team record.
With his 467th game in a Mudbugs' uniform, Dan Wildfong set the Bossier-Shreveport franchise record. Trevor Buchanan, now a Mudbugs' assistant coach, stands second.

Tom Sterns didn't call a penalty in the All-Star Game; he's made up for it
After a quiet opening 15 minutes in the penalty box, Sterns called a slew of infractions in the waning moments of the first period. That's too bad, because the pace of the game was really starting to pick up.

The Mudbugs have picked it up; Sterns incites fans with "no-goal" call
Bossier-Shreveport picked up the pace, but had a goal disallowed by referee Tom Sterns. Sterns blew the puck dead on the left side of the crease, not realizing the puck had slid across the goalmouth. In his defense, he did blow the call (literally) BEFORE the puck went in the net. No biggie here, it happens.

More than 11 minutes, no shots on goal for Mudbugs
Bossier-Shreveport is getting it handed to them right now. While the scoreboard still shows 0-0, the Mudbugs have been outshot 7-0 and the play has been spent in the Mudbugs' zone the entire game.

Larry Sterling gets night off
Kevin Schieve will be between the pipes tonight for the RiverKings. The fans here are going to be so disappointed.

So much for the Blackout tonight at CenturyTel Center. To me, it looks as if people AVOIDED wearing black at all costs.

1/6 BUGS VS. CORPUS CHRISTI

All tied up
The Rayz tied things up early in the third with a beautiful rush into the Mudbugs zone. Quick passed from Justin Quenneville and Jason Baird resulted in Derrick McIver’s wrister past John DeCaro.

Penalty-kill unit helps Bugs take charge
The Mudbugs killed off 1:36 of a two-man disadvantage to begin the second period and quickly garnered the momentum. Chris Gustafson’s shot from the blue line appeared to deflect off Chris Abbott in front of Zelenewich and into the net. The power-play goal tied the game at 2 early in the second period.
MacPherson and Dan Wildfong teamed up for yet another goal to give the Mudbugs the lead late in the second period.
MacPherson was perched behind the Corpus net and threaded a pass to Wildfong in the slot. The Mudbugs captain sent a one-timer past Zelenewich to bring the crowd to its feet.

Dangerous time for the Mudbugs
If Bossier-Shreveport plans to extended their 8-0-2 streak, they will have to weather 1:36 of 3-on-5 to begin the second period. The Rayz have been creating great chances and should have no problem doing so at the beginning of this period.

Now we know how this was a 5-4 game last week.
Good action up and down the ice and the Rayz have come to play. They certainly are matching the Mudbugs' playmakers thus far and two long-distance bombs have Corpus up 2-1.

Mudbugs forwards Joe Ori and Daniel Pegoraro collided while shorthanded and Geno Parrish sent a wrister from between the top of the circles which deflected off the bottom of the cross bar and into the net.

Of course, Rajan informs me that Geno is the older brother of Mark Parrish, the NHLer.
Mark Parrish began his career with the Florida Panthers (I was a season-ticket holder there his rookie year) and now plays with Minnesota.

Baird 1, Brassard 0
Jason Baird smoked a one-timer past John DeCaro midway through the first period to tie the game at 1. The blast from the top of the left circle was quite impressive.

Bugs get on the board first
Forbes MacPherson didn’t take part in the pregame warm-ups due to a nagging injury but was entered in Saturday’s lineup and scored less than five minutes into the contest.
MacPherson slipped a rebound through the legs of Brent Zelenewich.
The Mudbugs veteran may not be having the statistical season many hoped for, but this guy is still gutsy.

More from the NFL playoffs
Mudbugs ticket manager Tim Hill can tell the Dallas Cowboys are playing. Many of the season-ticket holders are no-shows tonight -- especially in Sections 107, 108 and 109. Hiller says there is a huge group of Cowboys fans as season ticket holders.

It's Saturday and I don't have to do any of my own research ... this is great ... from Rajan ... Rayz winger Adam Powell wears No. 37 for Corpus Christi because of his favorite NFL player, Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks. Things must have been interesting this week in the locker room as Corpus head coach Ken McRae is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. The Seahawks and the Cowboys met Saturday night in the NFC Wild-Card playoff round.

Brassard slashed Baird after Baird scored a shootout goal on New Year's Eve. Now Rajan said Baird did do a bit of showboating and showed up rookie goalie Adam Hanna.

Hanna made at least five saves during the 5-on-3 chance. Most from long distance, including a magnificent glove save seconds before the first period expired.

Big moment here
Things are getting testy and the Mudbugs now face a 2-man disadvantage late in the first period. TheMudbugs lead 1-0 after a goal from Milan Vodrazka.

Lightbody vs. Joseph
Quade Lightbody and Marlon Joseph drop em midway through the first period. This was a spirited fight, but not many quality shots landed. However, Lightbody may have landed one or two more good ones.

DeCaro back in town, will not start tonight
Goaltender John DeCaro got off a plane in Shreveport at 4 p.m. this afternoon and is in attendance tonight at the CenturyTel Center. However, Adam Hanna will start against the Tulsa Oilers.
