BUGS STREAK HITS NINE
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs recovered from a slow start, got goals from five different players and extended their win streak to nine with a 5-3 victory at Lubbock on Thursday.
Bossier-Shreveport peppered Lubbock netminder Brad Buss with 46 shots – including 21 in the first period. Most of the shots in the first 20 minutes came after the Cotton Kings took a 2-0 lead with a goal from Bobby Brown 8:49 in.
Second-year pro Brett Smith deflected home a slap shot from defenseman Dale Lupul to get the Bugs on the board with 4:08 left in the first. Veteran Blair Manning tied the game for Bossier-Shreveport two minutes later.
The Mudbugs nine-game winning streak is their best in three years and the 15-1-1 run is the squads second-best (15-0-2) since entering the Central Hockey League.
In a scoring oddity, five different Mudbugs scored and seven other teammates garnered assists. Not one Bossier-Shreveport player had a multi-point evening. Only three Mudbugs failed to score a point (Jeremy Downs, Chris Shaw and Shane Palahicky).
Veteran Chris Brassard extended his point streak to 13 games while Ken Carroll made 28 saves for his ninth straight win in net.
The Mudbugs are back in action tonight in Amarillo.

Milan Vodrazka scored Bossier-Shreveport's lone tally ... The teams, which did not meet last season, play again Sunday at the CenturyTel Center ... Mudbugs veteran Chris Brassard is riding a 12-game point streak (second best current streak in Central Hockey League). Fellow veteran Blair Manning looks to extend his five-game streak with at least one assist and the Mudbugs look to better their current five-game road winning streak.
